About the Society...

Sidmouth Arts Club Operatic Society (SACOS) is an amatuer group, originally formed in 1922, committed to staging musical theatre in Sidmouth. We exist to provide both entertainment for audiences in the Manor Pavilion Theatre and as an outlet for the considerable amatuer talent that exists in this part of East Devon.

We usually produce two shows each year, the principle one being at Easter, together with a 'smaller' one in Autumn. We are always glad to see new faces and anyone interested in being either on the stage, or behind the scenes, will be made very welcome.

For more history of the Society and details of our previous shows, follow this link.

You're only as good as your last performance...

In our case this was Pirates of Penzance

(Although the one before Pirates won an award!)

Autumn 2010 When The Lights Go On Again. Click the title to see the official website.

This fantastic original show from the pen of Roy Sault tells the story of family life in England during the war years, culminating in a VE / VJ day party. The audience are invited to sing along with any, or all, of the songs in the show! The audience will laugh and cry and join the family on their way through some difficult times and some fun times. It is a very clever observation on the humour that saw the nation through those dark years: school concerts, rationing, the Saturday Night Dance, ARP Wardens, air raids, queues, spam, all get a look in. Then of course there's the Camp Concert complete with Sergeant Major and his motley crew.

October 2010 - The Autumn show will be........When The Lights Go On Again. Click the title to see the official website. Brian Rees will be Drill Sargeant (sorry, Director) for this dramtised celebration of wartime music and memories.

Previous Shows In the last few years our shows have included; Pirates of Penzance, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Gigi, Anything Goes, The Melody Lingers On, Fiddler on the Roof, The Boyfriend, Me and My Girl, Moonlight Serenade, Oliver!, HMS Pinafore, Guys and Dolls, The Music Man, The Mikado, Carousel, Red Hot and Cole, 42nd Street.....The list goes back to 1922 (We actually have photos from a 1905 production by one of the Societies that became SACOS!).
